4 Reasons Slate Is an Excellent Choice for Your Roof

The use of slate for roofing is as old as civilization. Although many new materials have entered the market over the decades, no material could rival what slate brings to the table. Slate is long-lasting, durable, low-maintenance, energy-efficient and value-adding. Dior Construction, a local roofing contractor, shares four reasons slate is an excellent roofing investment.

1. Longevity - Unlike many roofing materials that age over time, you can consider slate immortal. When flawlessly installed and properly maintained, it can stay intact for over 100 years. It might need some roof repair every now and then, but don’t expect major problems. If you buy a new slate roofing system now, your grandchildren might not even have to replace it in their lifetime.

1. Environmental Friendliness - The waste from discarded roofing materials accounts for a significant part of all the waste sent to landfills in the country. Using a slate roof means that you won’t contribute to this because you won’t need to replace it anytime soon. In addition, slate is manufactured from natural materials so there are not chemical byproducts in its creation.

1. Durability - As an experienced roofing company, we recommend slate roofs because it stands up strong again the elements. Made from natural stone, it has impressive mechanical properties to withstand anything nature might throw at it. Its high density makes it waterproof and impervious to moss, fungus, mold and algae. It’s noncombustible, as well. Slate is exceptionally resistant to the effects of extreme temperature fluctuations.

1. Minimal Maintenance - All roofing products need routine inspections to identify signs of damage early, but slate is practically maintenance-free. You can enjoy the peace of mind of having a resilient roof overhead, and the pleasure of not paying for costly repairs for a lifetime.
