Most homeowners consider their roofs a significant investment, which is why it’s in their best interest to ensure that their roofing system is always in tip-top shape. However, there will come a time when a full roof replacement project is a more sensible option than having more roof repairs.
Dior Construction, one of the top residential roofing contractors, discusses more in today’s post.
Get to the Root of The Problem
If you want to assess your roof’s condition, most homeowners would think of checking out their home’s exterior first. After all, your exterior components are the ones that are exposed to the elements. However, in this case, you’ll have to check the attic first. Inspect your attic for any signs of trapped moisture, sunlight coming from gaps in the roof, stains, or streaks that indicate you have a leaky roof which calls for a replacement if the problem has worsened.
It’s also important to inspect your shingles, especially after a weather event passes your area. Your shingles should lie flat against the roof. If you find portions that are torn, cracked or buckled, then you can conduct a residential roof repair project. While you’re at it, make sure to check the gutters and downspouts if there are any loose granules in them.
When Should I Replace My Roof?
Here are a few situations where it’s sensible to have your roof replaced:
1. Majority of your shingles are curled, damaged, or buckled.
2. Widespread rot and mildew growth.
3. Organic growth in your roof.
4. Constant attic leaking.
5. When your roof’s structural integrity has been compromised.
The majority of these issues boil down to irreversible damage that calls for a roof replacement. Some of these issues are also caused by trapped moisture in your roof and other underlying problems that have worsened over time. If you notice that you’re having frequent repairs, you might as well have a full roof replacement. The amount of money you’ll spend having repairs is better spent on a new roof that will perform at its best for the years to come.
